Privacy policy
What we collect, why, and the choices you have.

Bushwalk Zimbabwe (“Bushwalk”, “we”) runs this site. You can browse everything here — experiences, places, the journal, the shop — without an account and without giving us any personal details. We hold personal information only when you choose to give it to us, plus a small amount of first-party analytics that tells us which channel brought you here. We do not sell your data, and we do not run third-party advertising or cross-site trackers.
What we collect
- When you create an account — your name and email address, and a securely hashed password.
- When you post to the community — the stories, reviews, comments, photos and videos you choose to publish.
- When you send an enquiry or message us — the details you put in the form or WhatsApp message, typically your name, contact details and what you are asking about.
- Basic analytics, automatically — which site or campaign referred you (for example a link tag or the referring website), the first page you landed on, and timestamps. We keep this to understand which of our channels — social, search, WhatsApp, word of mouth — actually reaches people. It does not include your name unless you separately give it to us.
Cookies and browser storage
- We set one first-party cookie,
bw_vid, a random identifier used only to remember the analytics above between visits. Other websites cannot read it, and it carries no advertising network. - We store a little information in your own browser: the referral channel we captured, and a short reference code we add to WhatsApp messages so we can connect a chat back to the channel that started it.
- We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
- You can clear or block these at any time in your browser; the site still works.
Who helps us run Bushwalk
We use trusted providers to operate the service: our website host (Vercel), our database (Neon), our media storage (Vercel Blob) and our business system (Odoo). When you choose to contact us on WhatsApp, your message is handled by WhatsApp under its own terms. We share your information with these providers only as far as needed to run Bushwalk — not for their own marketing.
Your choices
- Browse without an account — no personal details required.
- Edit or delete the community content you posted, from your account.
- Ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it — email info@bushwalk.co.zw.
